Thomas H. Newman Sr., 71, of Walton passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2022 at Wilson Medical Center, Johnson City. He was born on Jan. 13, 1951 in Margaretville, the son of Donald H. and Thea M. (Wormuth) Newman.

Tom was best known for being a great and loving father to his six children who he was very proud of. He had a very special and unbreakable bond with his three daughters. He was a logger and pulled horses for most of his life. He had such a passion and love for it and was especially proud when his daughters hitched with him. When he had his own team again starting in 2006 he always used the team name “The Newman Girls.” He served for many years as a director on the board for the New York State Horsepulling Association and was instrumental in bringing horsepulls back to the Delaware County Fair in Walton. He had a great love for his country and politics and always enjoyed listening to Rush Limbaugh on the radio. He was a hard worker and had a huge heart, always willing to give and help others.

He loved to go to TA’s multiple times a day where he was always surrounded by friends and laughed and shared stories. In the summer he loved to go to Daisy Queen for his nightly black raspberry ice cream, and always found someone to visit with. He could go anywhere in the country and find someone he knew or someone to talk to. He had so many great friends who loved and cared for him. Among many great friends who Tom was lucky to have, Pete Stanton held a special place in his heart.

Tom found great comfort in his faith and knowing he would one day go to heaven. He was such a huge part of the community and will be greatly missed by so many.

Surviving are five children: Thomas Newman Jr., Cory (Carol) Newman, Chad Newman, Elizabeth Newman, Olivia Newman and Emily Newman; one granddaughter, Sydney Newman; three brothers Ed Newman (Anita), Donald “Art” Newman (Carla) and Chris Newman (Melissa); two sisters, Cynthea Coe (Buddy) and Beth Hanna (Tom); and many nieces and nephews.
