Doris-Renee (Wallace) Weiner was born on Aug. 1, 1937. She grew up in Walton, a village of 5,000 residents between Roscoe and Oneonta. She was a member of the Walton Historical Society and for many years looked forward to the Delaware County Fair every August.

She graduated from New York State College for Teachers in Albany and began teaching in Camillus. After marrying her husband, Al, they moved to Spring Valley where she taught at Spring Valley High School. After her girls were born, she was a stay-at-home mom, “keeping the home fires burning” and spent time as an ex-officio campaign manager for Al. She returned to teaching English and public speaking at Ramapo Senior High School for the next 25 years, a profession she truly enjoyed. She earned her master’s degree in gifted education from the College of New Rochelle.

Doris-Renee’s volunteer work was focused on sharing her expertise in classic films which she presented and discussed at the Rockland County Jewish Community Center (where she was a long-standing board member). She was on the board of the Rockland County Jewish Family Service, the National Women’s Division of Israel Bonds, and the Rockland County Historical Society.

Her leisure activities included reading, participation in a book club, listening to jazz, Israeli dancing, traveling, and attending lectures with friends at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. She also enjoyed skiing with her family, their annual beach vacations, and going to Tanglewood. Her favorite activity was being with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Al, her daughters, Beth (Bruce) Weiskopf and Dana (Michael) Marlowe, five grandchildren (Alyssa, Melanie, Sam, Rebecca and Noah), and sister, Linda Tweedie.
