James Christopher Curtin Sr., 84, of Walton, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family April 12, 2024. James was born to the late Peter W. Curtin and Lillian Hensler on Dec. 17, 1939, in Jamaicia, Long Island.

James was a devoted family man who found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, cherishing moments with his family, spent time hunting big and small game, fishing, and most of all creating lasting memories with his loved ones. He was particularly fond of taking his family and grandchildren to Disney each year, sharing in the excitement of their adventures; they took family trips for over 50 years.

Over the years James was self-employed as a dump truck driver, also working for Breakstones, and Burton Clark Company. He was a service member of the Walton Cooperative Fire Insurance Company.

James is survived by his loving family, his children Lisa Curtin, Walton, Vance Curtin, Walton, Theresa Sparling, Strasburg, Virginia, Lorrie McNamara (Chris), Walton, James Curtin Jr. (Spring), Sidney Center, and Mary Curtin, Gallatin, Tennessee. James is also survived by many grandchildren - 16 in total; Mark Jr., Jackie, Casey, Kathy, Miranda, Blake, Megan (Austin), Kaitlyn, Shane James, Meka, Helaina, Ashlynn, Maddison, Dustin, Brooke, and Hannah, 12 great-grandchildren with two on the way; and his sister-in-law Beverly Curtin.

James is predeceased by parents Peter and Lillian Curtin, his brothers Peter Curtin and Charlie Curtin.

A graveside service will be held at the Walton Cemetery at 10 a.m. May 11, with Rev. Edward Golding officiating. Immediately following the grave side service friends and family will gather at the Walton Firehouse, 61 West Street, Walton.
