Erika Baker-Heinegg

Erika Baker-Heinegg, 87, of Delhi, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022 at Delhi Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. 

Born on July 14, 1935 in Plon, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Hugo and Irma (Panou) Gamst.

Erika was predeceased by her first husband, Professor Dennis Baker in 1998 and then by her second husband, Dr. Fritz Heinegg in 2002.

She was proud to have achieved her RN nursing degree at Hartwick College and had the gift of serving and caring for others. Erika worked for several years as a nurse for Delaware County Public Health office and later for the WIC program. 

She loved the outdoors and was a founding member of the Otsego Sailing Club and was a member of the Adirondack Mountain Club. Erika also was a supporter of the Catskill Symphony Orchestra and Glimmerglass Opera House. She was an expert seamstress and loved to garden, growing beautiful flowers. Erika was also loved to travel and was eager to find the next place to visit. 

Erika adored being a member of the Lutheran community and her times of worship at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Laurens.

Besides her husbands, Erika was predeceased by her son-in-law Charles Vennen.

She is survived by her daughters Adrienne Vennen of Westville and Allison (Thomas) Stange of Cherry Hill, N.J., grandson Jacob (Sophie) Phillip Traweek of Springfield, Va., and great-grandchildren Zoe and Isabelle Traweek.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Delhi, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 followed by burial at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi. A reception will follow at the Bluestone Restaurant at the Delhi College Golf Course. 

In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Erika can be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Laurens, Catskill Symphony Orchestra or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
