Clifford Burgin

Clifford L. Burgin, 87, of Bovina, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020, at Wilson Hospital, Johnson City.
Born on Feb. 28, 1933, in Delhi, he was the son of the late Edwin and Mary (Brown) Burgin. A lifelong resident of Bovina, Clifford was a 1951 graduate of Andes Central School.
Clifford worked on the family farm along with milking on the Storie farm in Bovina. He also drew feed for Hilson Bros. for many years with his dad.
On May 20, 1961, he married Marjorie Barnes in Walton. Together they raised two sons, Robert and Thomas, and ran the Burgin Family Farm.
In 1986 Clifford left farming to work for the Town of Bovina Highway Department, retiring in May of 2010. Clifford refereed basketball for over 25 years. He also served as the Fire Commissioner for the Bovina Fire District for 35 years. He was a lifetime member of the Bovina United Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee for many years.
Mr. Burgin was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed cutting wood, making maple syrup and mowing lawns. Clifford was never one to sit idle.
Clifford is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie, of Bovina; sons Robert (Roberta) of Bovina and Thomas (Amy) of Vestal; grandsons Joseph (Sarah) Burgin of Delhi and Jacob and Tyler Burgin of Vestal; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and relatives were invited to call on the family Tuesday, March 10, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, March 11, at the Bovina United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Garrett Schindler officiating. Burial will follow at Bovina Cemetery.
