Western Catskills Council Expands Grant Programs for Home Repairs and Accessibility

STAMFORD — The Western Catskills Community Revitalization Council (WCCRC) has secured several state grants to support homeowners in its service area, which spans portions of Delaware, Greene, and Schoharie counties. This includes the Delaware County towns of Harpersfield, Kortright, Middletown, Roxbury, and Stamford. The funding will provide critical home improvements, including accessibility modifications, emergency repairs, and the replacement of aging manufactured homes.

Among the available grants is the Access to Home program, which funds accessibility upgrades such as wheelchair ramps, roll-in showers, and grab bars for residents with mobility challenges. Seniors aged 60 and older may also qualify for emergency home repairs through the RESTORE program.

Additionally, the council’s Manufactured Home Replacement Program offers financial assistance to homeowners living in deteriorating manufactured homes. With support from the state’s MMHR and AHC programs, qualifying homes will be demolished and replaced with Energy Star-rated, HUD-certified manufactured housing, installed on new slab foundations.

All programs are offered at no cost to eligible households, with qualification criteria based on income, residency, and other factors. Further details are available at westerncatskills.org or by calling 607-652-2823, ext. 107.

To help residents navigate homeownership, WCCRC will host a Homeownership Academy at its Stamford headquarters. The free workshop series, led by HUD-certified housing counselor Eileen Knott, will cover topics such as budgeting, credit, banking, taxes, and home maintenance. Sessions will be held on select Saturdays from May through June. Prospective attendees can register by calling 607-652-2823, ext. 105.
