Ronald F. Smith of Englewood, Fla., formerly of McGraw, Andes and Auburn, passed away on Dec. 6, 2023 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.  He was the husband of Margaret Badran Smith.

Born in Ogdensburg, Ron spent his formative years in McGraw. He graduated from McGraw Central High School where he was a fine all-around athlete excelling in baseball and basketball. An avid reader, he also enjoyed golfing, crossword puzzles, bicycling, Saturday night dinner dates with his wife, and rarely missing daily episodes of the Andy Griffith Show.

He enjoyed a 45 year career in banking. He worked for 30 years at Marine Midland Bank as vice president and manager of the Tully and Cortland offices. His employment then took him to the National Bank of Delaware County where he served as vice president and manager of the Andes office, retiring in 2006. He loved the Andes community and considered it his second hometown. It was there that he and Margaret made many enduring friendships.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Margaret Badran, his children Jeffrey (Chandra) Smith, Christine (Scott) Hayden, grandchildren Taylor Hayden, Brendan Hayden, Alec (Caroline) Smith, Holly Smith and Luke Smith; great-grandson Jonathan, step-grandchildren Taylor (Eric) Kruse and Isaiah. He is also survived by his sisters Nancy Wainwright and Charlotte (Jim) Wainwright, his mother-in-law Elizabeth Badran, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Vivian Smith, sister Carol Shippey, father-in-law Joseph Badran, brother-in-law Jack Wainwright, and nephew Mark Wainwright.

His family would like to acknowledge and thank Ron’s niece Carol DeLeon and her husband Dr. Ramon DeLeon for their support and assistance during Ron’s illness.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, Dec. 16 from 10 a.m. to noon at the White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South Street, Auburn. A funeral service will immediately follow at noon in the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Auburn.
