Robert F. Edwards of Downsville, a retired Sandhog for Local Union 147 in New York City and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022 at Robinson Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, Stamford. He was 85.
The son of the late Fenton and Elsie Jensen Edwards, he was born Aug. 28, 1936, in Downsville.
Robert proudly served Our Country in the United States Air Force from 1954-1958 during the Korean War; he had been a member of the Oneonta Elks Lodge # 1312; he was a member of the James S. Moore American Legion Post # 176; and a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Downsville.
Survivors include his loving wife, Gail M. Fuller Edwards, at home; one brother, Richard Edwards of Downsville; one sister, Irene Schultz and her husband Donald of Quarryville, Pa.; children Shawn Shaw and his wife Tina of Downsville and Kristina Anderson and her husband Douglas of Hobart; five grandchildren, Juliane Erwin and her husband Chris, Nicholas Shaw, Matthew Anderson, Stephen Anderson and Joshua Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Emma Erwin and Liam Erwin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Glen Edwards.
The family has chosen to remember Robert’s life privately at this time.
