Richard Lee Buchanan, 80, of Walton, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023.

Richard was born Sept. 3, 1943 in Walton. He is the son of the late Leon W. and Ruth (Campbell) Buchanan. Richard was one of six children. Richard proudly served in the Army from 1960-1963.

Richard married the love of his life the late Sheila E. Bodiot on Nov. 16, 1964. Together they enjoyed spending time with their family and friends. Richard worked as a supervisor for Breakstone’s for a few years, but became a truck driver and discovered his passion. He began his career as a truck driver with Queens Farms Dairy in Deposit as well as Queens Farms Dairy in Coventry. He later went to work as a team driver with his brother Robert for TRL Trucking, a cross country delivery service. He enjoyed the scenery and the different states they passed through. When Richard was not working he enjoyed vacationing, playing outdoor games, school events and watching shows with his children. Richard retired from TRL Trucking in May of 1987, after a horrific accident that left him disabled.

Richard enjoyed many things after his retirement such as puzzles, tinkering in his garage, reading, mowing his lawn and his grandchildren’s lawns on his John Deere, but his real passion was his family. He loved going to his grandchildren’s sporting events, spending quality time with his family/friends, as well as having barbecues, dinners, birthdays, and holidays together. He always put his family above anything else.

Richard is survived by his three loving daughters, Yvonne Buchanan, Jacqueline Driscoll and Ruth Mathews and a son, Michael Buchanan, as well as grandchildren Donald Furgeson Jr., Lyndsey Furgeson, Zachary (Lily) Furgeson, Isabelle Driscoll, Brittny (Derik) Hadden, Nicholas (Becca) Mathews, Andrea (Matt) Lange, Michael Lints, and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers Robert (Jean) Buchanan, Donald (Deana) Buchanan and sister Patricia Buchanan and many nieces and nephews. He had a special relationship with all that he knew, especially his niece and nephew Lani Roe Miller and Michael Roe.

He was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife Sheila E. (Bodiot) Buchanan, brother Roy, and sister Betty, son-in-law Timothy Mathews, nephew Michael Buchanan, mother-in-law Ramona Bodiot, father-in-law Hugh Bodiot, brothers-in-law Terry, Hugh, and Richard Bodiot, Al Stilwell, David Roe and Norbert Szczepcznski, sisters-in-law Maxine Stilwell, Yvonne Roe and Faye Szczepcznski.
