Richard A. Houck, born March 9, 1958 to Floyd A. Houck and Beulah M. Houck of Walton, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home Jan. 13, 2024.

Richard AKA “Houcky” was a longtime resident of Walton moving briefly to Bainbridge and then back to Walton in 1998. He was employed by Breakstones and later Kraft foods for many years as a forklift operator and was a seasoned stone cutter working in local quarries alongside his father Floyd for many years.

Richard enjoyed the outdoors and was known as quite the sportsman, looking forward to hunting and fishing season every year. Richard was a skilled hunter and fisherman and many of his catches could be seen mounted and displayed throughout his home.

In his younger years Richard and his father could be found spending countless hours preparing vehicles to be run in the county fair’s demolition derby competitions. Richard acquired many trophies throughout the years for competing with his cars at local fairs and proudly displayed them on the shelves of his home, sharing fond memories of his competition days with family and friends.

Later in life Richard learned to enjoy the simple things, such as sitting on his front porch visiting with close friends and spending time at home with his companion in life, Joan, and their many dogs. Richard could often be found visiting with people at the Country Store as he bought his lotto tickets or driving around the village enjoying the warm summer days with his canine companions.

Richard is survived by his life companion Joan Dunker of Walton, his daughter Jessica (Anthony) Ladd of Walton and his sister Barbara (Dan) Conklin of North Carolina, along with several cousins.

Richard was predeceased by both his parents, Floyd and Beulah Houck.

Burial services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St, Walton.
