Rhetha E. Mauro, 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021, at home surrounded by her family.

Rhetha was born on June 25, 1928 in Walton, the daughter of the late Everett and Laura (Baker) Budine. On May 12, 1946 Rhetha married her beloved husband, Everett Filer whom passed away in January 1987. Rhetha married her second husband, Albert Mauro in October 1988. He predeceased her in 1990.

Rhetha was a graduate of Walton Central School class of 1945 and of the NYS Ag & Tech at Delhi, Class of 1946. She worked as a legal secretary for attorney Walter L. Terry for many years, was clerk of family court and stenographer for Delaware County, Surrogate for Family Court of the State of New York and secretary to Supreme Court Justice Walter L. Terry from 1972-1978. Rhetha was secretary to Supreme Court Justice Phillip J. Kramer and court clerk for the Supreme and County Courts in Broome County until her retirement in May 1983. Rhetha was past president and life member of NYS Family Court Assn., Court Stenographer of the 6th District Secretary of Supreme Court Justices, member of the American Legion, Moose Chapter 502, and the First United Methodist Church of Walton.

Rhetha is survived by her stepbrother, David Carroll (Mary), sister-in-law, Wilburna Budine, nieces and nephew Randy Budine, Judy Lindsay and Dawn Smith;

great-nieces and great-nephews, Denny Smith, Dawna Smith, Chad Jackson and Michael Lindsay.

She was predeceased by her brother, Everett Budine, stepbrothers William, Harry and Robert Carroll and her longtime companion, Donald Nimsger.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 24, at 11 a.m. at Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, Walton, with Rev. Christine Lindeberg, officiating. Rain date is Saturday, June 25, at 11 a.m.
