Red Cross Calls for Blood and Platelet Donations as Spring Travel Increases

Posted

As the arrival of spring brings increased travel and holiday celebrations, the American Red Cross is urging individuals to donate blood or platelets to help maintain a stable supply for patients in need. The call comes after a difficult winter, during which severe weather conditions led to the loss of tens of thousands of blood donations.

With no substitute for blood and a shelf life of just 42 days, donations are critical to ensuring hospitals can meet demand. Type O donors and platelet donors are especially needed.

To encourage participation, the Red Cross offers incentives throughout April:

All donors will be entered for a chance to win one of three $5,000 gift cards.

Those who donate between April 1 and 13 will receive a $15 Amazon.com gift card via email.

Donors between April 14-30 will receive an exclusive Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last.

Appointments can be scheduled by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS, or using the Red Cross Blood Donor App.
