Paul “Gary” Chase passed away suddenly, but peacefully on Saturday evening, April 11, 2020 at Albany Medical Center.
Gary was predeceased by his father and mother, Paul A. Chase and Angel Gallaro Chase; he was also predeceased by his beloved son, Jonathan “Jay” Chase in 1997; his sister, Gail Sherman in 2016 and brother-in-law, Donald Sherman in 2018.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Shirley Lacey Chase; sister, Cindy Baxter (John) of Liverpool; daughter Pattie Chase Brown (Rich) of Port Byron; he was a bonus dad to Jackie Mills-VanLoan (Doug), Angela Mills (Michael) and Tommy Mills Jr. (Kathy); grandchildren Matthew Brown, Nicholas Brown (Krissi), Thomas Mills-Hofsdal (Bridget), Julia, Chelsea and Belli Bernal, Texas; great-grandchildren Iziah, Ayden and Baily, whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and a very special friend, Ron Hulburt. He is survived as well by brothers-in-law, Scott Lacey (Lorraine), Jerry Lacey, Bill Lacey (Janet), Si Lacey (Susan) and Terry Lacey; sister-in-law, Gloria Sherburne. Gary was welcomed into his “adopted” loving Mills family of Downsville.
Gary served his country in the United States Navy as a Radioman 3rd Class aboard the USS AM Sumner, being honorably discharged in May of 1963. He worked as a Journeyman Lineman with IBEW Local 1249 out of Syracuse, beginning in April 1970 until his retirement in 1997. His work allowed him to travel extensively to Newfoundland, Florida, Nebraska, California and many other places. He enjoyed the yearly clambakes at Local 1249 in Syracuse, which was like a family reunion. He enjoyed being able to catch up with his Union brothers and sisters.
Gary always enjoyed time at TA’s Place and doing his instant tickets with Shirley.
A service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Gary’s memory may be made to the James S. Moore American Legion Post 167, 1 Legion Lane, Downsville, NY 13755.
