U.S. Representative Marc Molinaro (NY-19) announced Tuesday, Oct. 24 that New York state has received $360,015,351 in federal funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). Molinaro is a strong supporter of the program and is fighting to increase funding for it.

HEAP is administered through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). It helps individuals and families with low incomes pay their home heating costs and with cooling bills in summer. HEAP can also be used to weatherize homes to make them more energy efficient and better protected during disasters and extreme weather to mitigate energy emergencies.

Molinaro said, “As we head into the winter months, we are ensuring that every family, regardless of their financial circumstances, can afford the basic necessity of heat. No family should ever have to choose between heating their home or putting food on the table.”

Individuals interested in applying for HEAP can visit energyhelp.us or call the National Energy Assistance Referral (NEAR) hotline toll-free at: 1-866-674-6327.
