Letter to the Editor: We All Need To Save For A Rainy Day!

Posted

Those were words said to me by John Eberhard who was the former executive director at Delaware Opportunities before tragically being killed in a motor vehicle accident about 8 years ago. He put ungodly hours in at DO. Those words were said by John when asked why he spent so much time at work. He’d be working on the computer searching for funds and grants for DO. He was also on top of budgets and balances and if things were off he’d question it immediately and if resolution was needed it would be done immediately. For many years he served as the heartbeat of DO and its programs and this includes the staff. I realize that not everyone can be a John Eberhard. I also realize that I will never be privy to all of the facts that led to DO shutting the doors to the Senior Meals sites due to being owed monies from OFA. I can’t help but wonder why the two organizations couldn’t have brought in a mediator to resolve the issue? But I mostly don’t understand why DO decided to shut the doors down on our Senior Citizens?
