Letter to the Editor: The World Smelled of Horses

Posted

This story brought back memories of a pair of horses my dad (David Jacobson) had purchased from the Austin’s Auction Barn. This was a pair of the Mustang horses. One of the horses was a gray mare he named Molly.

The first year my sister Angelica raked hay with Molly. Molly was a sick horse and manageable but with time she got well and she got very high life. After this no young lady could rake hay with Molly. Now only a real horseman could handle her. This pair of Mustang horses was always high life and could go all day long at hard farm work. My day used them many years on a steep hillside dairy farm.

Horses were very expensive and not many for sale. Bill Austin saw this and went west to obtain Mustang horses so they could be sold at a reasonable price. This must have been a much needed help to people in this area like my dad on his dairy farm. Thank you Bill Austin.
