Letter to the Editor: Rule of Law or Selective Sympathy?

Re the letter, pg 13, The Reporter, 4/9/26:

“Support the NY For Criminals Act”

There, I’ve corrected the title. 1911.8 USC 1325, 1326 declares illegal entry into the US a crime.  Why on earth would anyone vote to protect criminals?  The writer conflates illegal immigrant with “immigrant.” Legal immigrants don’t fear the law. Neither immigration law, nor any other law, “rips” families apart; all persons are separated from the perps, no children are incarcerated with adults; men are separated from women. There is no proof that detention facilities are substandard, nor does the writer offer any. Illegals choose to feel “terrorized”. Courts decide on enforcement irregularities.

The government has made a very generous offer to illegals to self deport. And they can take whomever they want with them - no need for families to be separated, unless they choose to.

There are many valid economic and social reasons to exit the illegals, but the main reason -and the only one needed - is that IT’S THE LAW. We can’t pick and choose which laws to enforce. We have become the Greatest Nation because of the rule of law. Don’t fight it.
