Kent Robert Hoyt, 74, of Maple Grove, Morris, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022.  He was born in Oneonta on June 25, 1948, the first child of Bob and Ruth Hoyt. He graduated from Gilbertsville School before moving on to Erie County Community College, where he majored in drafting. He was a draftsman at the Blenheim-Gilboa dam project until he was drafted on his honeymoon in 1974 and joined the Air Force where he served four years at Westover Air Force Field. 

 After the Air Force, Kent and his wife Sue eventually went into business with his sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Jim Groff, a partnership that endures today at the Big M Supermarket in Walton.

 Kent enjoyed playing coronet in the band, attending youth fellowship, golfing, hunting, snowmobiling and motorcycling. Besides his beloved Maple Grove where he lived his entire life, he loved spending time at Sue’s family pond and at “the barn” with family and friends.

 Kent is survived by his wife Susan Ganio; aunts Irene Johnson and Arlyn Wade, his sisters Helen (Jim) Groff and Jan Costello (Bill); children Sandra (Andy) Meyers, Kent Hoyt Jr. (Amanda), Laura Hoyt (John), Kelly Hoyt (Anthony); grandchildren Andrew, Kyle, Nicole, Dakoda, Mackenzie, Joseph and Zeta; cousins George (Linda) Wade and Chuck (Lynn) Wade, Shirley Paquin (Ron); in-laws John (Mary Lou) Ganio, Gino (Joan) Ganio, Robert Ganio and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

 Kent was predeceased by his parents, nephew Tyler Hoyt Costello, sister-in-law Virginia Ganio, his uncles and wives, Keith (Frances) Matteson, Douglas (Jeannette) Matteson, Ellsworth (Eleanor) Matteson and Dever (Ruth) Matteson; Janice Peckham, and Jack (Eva) Hoyt. 

Calling hours will be held at Johnston & Stanimer Funeral Home in Morris Friday, Sept. 16 from 4-6 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville Saturday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m., with reception to follow.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
