Joseph E. Taggart

Joseph E. Taggart, 73 of Franklin, passed unexpectedly at his home Nov. 30, 2023.

 Joseph was born Feb. 22, 1950, at home in Merrickville, to John Taggart and Anna (Van der Zee) Taggart.  

Joe married the love of his life, Susan Greene, Aug. 28, 1971. Joe is survived by his wife Susan Taggart, daughter Stacey Jordan and her husband Jeffrey of Otego and their four children and significant others: Tyler (Rachel Early), Johnathon (Erin Brooks), Katelyn and Derek Jordan. 

He is also survived by brothers John “Jack” Taggart and his wife Joanne, Jeff Taggart and his wife Lori and Peter Taggart.   

Joe was predeceased by his parents John and Anna, brothers James Taggart and Scott Taggart and a sister Kathy Taggart Zahar.  

Joe spent many years working for the town of Franklin, driving tractor trailers, working for Taggart Electric and owned and operated his own excavating business - Taggart Excavating.

Joe was an avid hunter and loved spending time in the woods. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. 

Joe’s grandchildren were the apple of his eye, and they have many fond memories of their grandfather and the time he spent with them. 

Joe was a member of the Franklin Fire Department, volunteered many hours at the cemeteries in Franklin and was a member of the Unadilla Rod and Gun Club and the Sidney Elks Lodge #2175.

Calling hours were Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 5-8 p.m. at CH Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. at the funeral chapel.
