Janet Marie Pomeroy

Janet Marie Pomeroy, 89, of Walton, flew into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022 after a brief illness. She was born to Horace and Gladys (VanValkenburg) Brannen on Sept. 4, 1932, in East Branch.

Janet graduated from Hancock Central School in 1949. She married Earl Pomeroy in 1954 and he predeceased her in 2004. She was a homemaker, pastor’s wife, legal secretary, and retired as a real estate consultant.

Janet’s love and passion was introducing people to her Saviour Jesus. She cared deeply about their lives and was a faithful friend and confidant. Even when in poor health, she never lost that passion. She loved children, youth, and elderly and was known to all as “Aunt Janet.” For many years she compiled Southern Gospel music from listening to the radio while on vacation visiting her relatives. She taught that music to the church youth group, who then gave concerts throughout New York state and Pennsylvania. Every weekend, they loaded her piano on a bus and headed out to churches, prisons, campgrounds and rural villages to sing the good news of Jesus’ love and salvation for anyone who would listen. Her life was lived to help others know Him.

Besides her dedication to her church family and God, Janet had a fun-loving side that blossomed whenever there was a birthday, Tupperware or Home Interiors party. She was also known for the intricate doilies and runners she would crochet, as well as her chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter frosted cake. She loved legal and real estate work, and was known for her professionalism, attention to detail and no-nonsense work ethic. She had two mottos: “The show must go on”, meaning never give up; and “Eat dessert first.” Janet touched many lives throughout her 89 years, and they continue to keep in touch to this day.

Surviving are her brother Allen Brannen and friend, Kathie Glade; daughter Dawn Pomeroy Norwood; son Earl Gene Pomeroy, daughter-in-law Eiko Pomeroy; granddaughter Jordan Kasumi Pomeroy; sons-in-law Douglas Norwood Jr. and Robert Jenson Sr.; brother-in-law, William Walczyk; and many nieces and nephews.

Janet was predeceased by her daughter Bonnie Lee Jenson; two sisters, Beverly Burdick and Anne Walczyk, sister-in-law Jeanette Brannen; and brother-in-law Warner Preston Burdick.

Calling hours were held Tuesday, Aug. 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the East Branch Community Church followed by her funeral service at 1. Burial followed in East Branch Cemetery.
