Early Voting Underway for Republican Primary Races Across Delaware County

Posted

DELHI — Early voting is underway for Republican voters in Delaware County ahead of the June 24 primary election, which features a contested race for county treasurer and seven town-level offices across the region.

In the only countywide Republican contest, Carli Pinner of Downsville is challenging Ronda Williams of Walton for the treasurer’s seat currently held by Beverly Shields, who is retiring at the end of the year.

The winner of the primary will appear on the Republican line in the November general election. If Williams loses in the primary, she will face Pinner from the Conservative line in November’s general election.

Local races have also drawn voter attention, with Republican primaries scheduled in Colchester, Hancock, Meredith, Sidney, Stamford, Tompkins and Walton. Offices on the ballot in various towns include supervisor, superintendent of highways and town clerk.

As of Tuesday, June 17 there were 38 early voters in Delaware County, according to staff at the county’s board of elections.

In contrast, there were 154 early voters in 2024, when there was a Democratic primary for the 102nd Assembly District and a Democratic primary for a town supervisor and council member in the county, election staff reported.

In 2023, an election year for local races, there was a Republican primary for the seat of district attorney, and five towns with Republican primaries for council members. In 2023, there was a total of 125 early voters.

There are no Democratic primaries scheduled this cycle.
