Doris E. Sanford

Doris E. Sanford has gone to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021. Doris was born in Dunraven at the home of her parents, Robert and Beatrice Cowan, March 14, 1928. She married George Sanford in 1945.

Doris happily shared the ministry with her husband for nearly 40 years.

She enjoyed many forms of craft work and sold many of her creations at the farmer’s market in Olean for several years.

She was predeceased by both her parents, her sister Marjorie Cowan Slade; brothers Herbert Cowan, Ralph Cowan, in-laws Carol Beland Sanford (John), Barbara Ackerly Sanford (Myron Jr.), daughter Sally and son-in-law Michael Angell, and grandson Ryan Sprague; great-grandchildren Breanna Love and Nathaniel McClure.

She is survived by her loving husband of 75 years, Rev. George Sanford, children Ted Sanford (Sue), Jessie Sprague (Ron), and Rosalie Bentley (Jim); 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; her brothers John (aka Jack) Cowan and Richard (Roseann) Cowan, sister Laura Smith and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at Smith Funeral Home in DeRuyter on Saturday, Feb. 20, with a funeral immediately following. Burial will be held at a later date following a short service in New Kingston.
