Donald (Donnie) Scofield Jr., 64, of Walton, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Oct. 1, 2021.

Born on July 13, 1957 in Walton, he was the son of the Donald and Myra Scofield. He married his high school sweetheart, Cathy Gregory, in 1977. They were happily married for 44 years and they spent those years enjoying life to its fullest.

After graduating from Walton Central School, Don spent many years as a dairy farmer. He then became an electrician working for Taggart Electric before joining the IBEW Local 325 out of Binghamton, from which he recently retired.

Don enjoyed working on his farm tractors, camping, woodworking, bowling, and spending time with his family and friends; in particular, road trips and “MacGyvering” with his brother Tim. He was known for being the life of the party and enjoyed a good prank – either pulled by him or on him. Don liked taking trips down unknown roads exploring all that he could find. He treasured being a Papa and taking his grandkids on mule rides. Don’s quick wit and love for his family will be greatly missed. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Cathy; children Marie (Sarah), Jason (Becky), and Eric (Meghan); grandchildren Alexa, Madison, Logan, Noah, Paisley, and Blake; his mother Myra (Higley Scofield); siblings Tim, Carl, Rhonda, and Raymond; father-in-law Carl Gregory; aunts, uncles, brothers- and sisters in-law, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Don was predeceased by his father, Donald, mother-in-law Janet Gregory, and sister-in-law JoAnn Scofield.

Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held Thursday, Oct. 7, from 4-7 p.m. at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. A graveside service to celebrate Don’s life will take place on Friday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. at Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, Walton, with Pastor Larry Light officiating.
