DELHI - Following a vote at a re-organizational meeting held Saturday, Sept. 30, the Delaware County Republican party is under new leadership. Former Chairperson Dave Rubera of Hancock lost his leadership role to Katie Taggart of Walton.

Taggart is a member of the Walton Republican Committee, serving as its secretary.

She ran for the position, she said, to foster collaboration between Delaware County Republicans to ensure “our core values translate into action within our elected offices.”

Her party goals for the upcoming year include increasing Republican voter registrations, expanding a dedicated volunteer base, and actively supporting campaign efforts to maximize voter turnout in every election.

“Our party must remain unwavering in its pursuit of electing and reelecting Republican candidates at every level, from town board positions to county judgeships,” Taggart said.

New officers were also slated which include: Joshua Morgan of Delhi as first vice-chairperson, Craig DuMond of Masonville as second vice-chairperson, Lorraine Takahashi of Walton as third vice chairperson, Ronda Williams of Walton as treasurer, and Haley Gransbury, Tompkins, secretary.

When asked if the Republican party would make space available for state and federal elected officials in a more central location in the county rather than Hancock, Taggart said the decision lies with the state and federal elected officials. Congressman Marc Molinaro has dedicated office space in Hancock.

“The Delaware County Republican Committee serves our county in its entirety regardless of the place of residence of our officers,” she said.

When further asked if the Delaware County Republican party would designate The Reporter as the party’s official, designated newspaper, Taggart responded, ”Any change in the designation of our official newspaper would be a matter to be determined by the Delaware County Board of Supervisors.”

Supervisors revoked the Republican designation of The Reporter as an official newspaper, a designation which it has held since 1881, in 2021.
