Barbara J. Schmutzler, 90, of Walton, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 14, 2020 at Robinson Terrace Rehabilitation and Nursing Center following a long illness.

Barb was born April 5, 1930 in Syracuse. She spent the last 56 years living in Walton.

Barbara was a homemaker and raised seven wonderful children. Even though she had the tough task of raising seven children, she always found time to bake cookies for all the kids’ bake sales at school and was especially known for her glazed donuts which were always a favorite. She was an avid knitter and loved to crochet, always making sweaters, afghans, and other items for friends and family. Barbara was a former member of the Eastern Star and longtime treasurer at the Walton United Presbyterian Church. Most of all, Barbara loved to cook for, and spend time with, her large extended family.

Survivors include her children Marilyn Kulkarni (Sudhir), Donna Ferguson (Gary), Ellen Lockhart, Robert Schmutzler (Celeste), Debora Rogers (Bruce), Pamela Hawes (John) and Lori Sulger; grandchildren Shyam, Sanjay, Shanti, Sandhya, Jacob, Jarrett, Elijah, Erica, Howard, Rachel, Amanda, Kate, Brett, Richard, Erin, Brielle and Emily; 16

great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Barbara is predeceased by her beloved husband Richard Schmutzler, who passed away on July 22, 2011 after 60 years of marriage, and sons-in-law Howard Lockhart and Daniel Sulger.

A graveside service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 1 p.m. at Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, Walton with Pastor Larry Light officiating.
