16 x 4: Walton quadruplets celebrate milestone birthday

Posted

WALTON - On Aug. 8, the Barnes family will celebrate a special occasion: the 16th birthdays of their quadruplets — Samantha, Olivia, Mackenzie, and Maddison. Born prematurely at just 27 1/2 weeks, the Barnes sisters have overcome numerous challenges to reach this milestone.

Parents Matt and Jessica anticipated the possibility of multiples due to fertility treatments, and once the quads were born they adopted a routine following their stay at the neonatal unit of the hospital, which included strict schedules that have evolved into a more flexible but still organized family life.

Each girl has developed her unique personality and aspirations, Jessica said — Maddison aims to become a teacher, Olivia an officer of the law, Samantha an animal keeper, and Mackenzie is a music enthusiast.

Their names reflect their family heritage. This year, the family will mark the girls’ sweet sixteen with a backyard barbecue surrounded by family and close friends.

With two of the girls poised to get their driving permits, this birthday represents both a celebration of their past and a gateway to their future.
