More than 70 New Kingston Valley residents and friends gathered Aug. 28-29 for the annual Whoop-De-Doo, a weekend of food, history, theater and music.

The event featured a melodrama, a historical presentation and a giant potluck, along with performances by Lali and the Pops, a six-member band that describes its blend of old and new music as “cowboy jazz.”

The group’s repertoire ranges from traditional standards and familiar rock songs to original compositions. The musicians have performed throughout the region, across the country and internationally.

The band included Lisa Light on violin and vocals, George Quinn on bass, Jim Rauter on guitar and harmonica, Alexandra Martin, known as Lali, on vocals, Vladimir Smirnoff on drums and Chris Stearns on trumpet.
