What’s Happening at The Sidney Public Library In January

Along with all of the regular preschool, school-age and teen programs that are presented each week, staff at the Sidney Memorial Public Library have some exciting programs coming up in January. 

The year 2026 is the 250th anniversary of our nation and to help celebrate the library will offer a series of six programs by Scott Payne commemorating this special event. Join us on Thursday, Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. for the first in the series, Scott’s presentation, Saratoga: Two Battles That Changed the World Part 1: The Battle of Freeman’s Farm. This program will be held in the Smart Community Room. 

Watercolor Workshop: On Saturday, Jan. 17 from 2-3:30 p.m., join Chris Foxx for a watercolor painting workshop. This class is free but registration is required. Call the library at 607-563-1200 or sign up in person at the circulation desk. 

Friends Movie: On Jan. 25 at 1:30 p.m. The Friends of the Libraries will present the movie, “The Greatest Showman” with Hugh Jackman. Enjoy this crowd pleaser on the big screen in the Smart Community Room. The movie is rated PG and runs 1 hour, 45 minutes. 

Computer Classes: There will be a class on Microsoft Word on Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. and a class on Microsoft Exel Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m.

Photo Exhibit: View the work of nature photographer Carl Higgs through Jan. 23 in the Smart Community Room. 

Friends of the Libraries will host their A La Carte book sale in the foyer of the library Saturday, Jan. 17, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. 

Photography Club will meet Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. This group meets monthly with Rod Sutton and Mark Picone to discuss techniques and to learn and share tips. 

Weather Policy: Reminder, when the Sidney School District is closed for a snow day the Sidney and Masonville libraries will also be closed. If there is a one-hour delay the Sidney library opens at 10 a.m., a two hour delay the library opens at 11 a.m. Tune in to WCDO for further closing information. 

The Sidney and Masonville libraries will be closed on Jan. 19 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
