Weather Words with Frank Ward

“Good day to everyone. The thing I can really say about the past weather since last Thursday - is not that much in the way of precipitation but a huge change in temperature.

This past Thursday we actually hit 73 degrees. It felt like summer - that was 15 degrees above normal for us and that night we stayed in the 50s.

We had a few showers - 6/100ths of an inch and then the cold front that came through on Friday. The good thing for us is that we had clouds overhead overnight so we didn’t get have real cold weather for Friday night. However, when Saturday arrived it was a different story. We had a high on Saturday - believe it or not - of only 47 degrees; so we went from a start of 40 to 47.

And then, a huge drop off for Saturday night. We ended up hitting 28 degrees during the night and on wakeup - when I get up - it was only 30 and it was a  pretty heavy frost out there. It still hasn’t killed everything yet but I will tell you once the sun came out yesterday the leaves started falling off the trees.

We had little bit of wind yesterday afternoon, so now we have leaves to rake. It’s still pretty nice out there so this is our peak time for fall viewing - go out and appreciate them because what is up and coming is probably going to bring down a bunch of them out there a little later this week.

Today, Monday, Oct. 12, we may get into the 50s again, but then the big heavier stuff is coming on Thursday when we’re actually going to have maybe an inch of rain, along with that though and the wind and the leaves are really going to start falling down. That’s why they call it fall, after all.

Believe it or not in that Sunday low temperature time - some people actually got to sleep - but a few people saw a snowflake here in Delaware County. So, it’s a little early for that yet but - you might remember we’ve had Halloweens wading through the snow, so anything is a possibility.

So, hang in there and appreciate the colors we’ve got and find the rake, because you’re going to need it.

You’ll hear from me again this coming Thursday. Have a good day.” ~ Frank
