“Last Wednesday, March 26, it showed us this is spring in Delaware County as it started to snow. Believe it or not when I got up on Thursday morning, March 27, I actually had to go out and measure it. We had 1/10th an inch of snow that fell. And It was 24 degrees. It took until noon to melt the snow away, but it did warm up to be 44 degrees and it was a sunny day.
Then it stayed above freezing overnight and Friday, March 28, started at 35 degrees. We got some more rain and that was good. We got 12/100ths of an inch. But it was weird because, again, we suddenly had winds pick up. We had some rain predicted again for Saturday - which we did get - 17/100ths of an inch. And Sunday, March 30, it was 51 degrees, on and off sun and clouds, but the rain that was predicted never happened.
Monday, March 31 was 49 degrees and, believe it or not, by afternoon it was 71 degrees out there - short sleeve weather and everything else. I said, ‘Hey this is terrific.’ And then you woke up to Tuesday, April 1 and it was 31 degrees out there and it got only to 42 degrees. And boy was it windy! The wind stopped and I wish I could say it was going away, but it’s not. It as 24 degrees outside on Wednesday morning and we were under a wind advisory for Wednesday and Thursday. So welcome back to wind.
March Summary
We had seven days above 60 degrees with two of those being in the 70s. It was 4 degrees above normal per day. It was a very warm month. We had almost no snow - 2.2 inches. Normal is 15.
Unfortunately it was a third month in a row with below precipitation. We only had 2.52 inches worth of rain or liquid precipitation. Normal is 3 1/2, so we are one inch below - that’s three months in a row. Let’s hope that doesn’t continue into the spring. Nothing’s worse than starting spring with a drought. But anyway, April 1, it was a little windy out there. It better warm up. They say it’s going to. Wednesday night, April 2, we got some rain. Three out of the next five days, expect something to fall out of the sky.
The one good thing about it none of it is supposed to be snow. So hang on to your hat. Things that could blow away - take care of them and put them away for now and let’s hope we have a normal spring.
I see the green buds on my lilac bushes and I have some daffodils that are up, but not blooming yet, so spring is getting here so we can keep our fingers crossed. Have a good one.” ~ Frank Ward
