Warm end to April

Posted

“Friday, April 26 was really cold. We actually started at 20 degrees, but totally sunny skies all day long warmed us up to 62 degrees, with a really high air pressure of 30.40.

That 20 degrees is more like a February temperature - not the stuff we’re supposed to get in April. But anyway, nature did eventually fix itself. Saturday, April 27 started out at 31 degrees and it hit 60 - and it rained. Sunday, April 28, was a warm 44 degrees to start and it got to 71 and a little bit more rain.

Monday, April 29, felt like summer. It started at 59 degrees outside and in the afternoon at 3:30 it hit 81 degrees, here in Walton. That’s like June. So we get January to start the week and we get June to end the week. Anyway, we had 58 degrees to start Tuesday, April 30 - 76 degrees was our high for that one; and right here we got 43/100th of an inch of rain, and that ended April.

Areas around us had a lot more than that. They issued flood warnings by Bainbridge and Sidney and in that area, but we only got the 43/100ths. That’s fine with me. It was a wet enough month.

So it turns out that the warms and the colds equal each other out - because the average temperature for the month was 43.75 and we had 44. That’s only a quarter of a degree. We don’t even count that. It was a really wet month. Normal is 3.95 inches of precipitation and we had 5.76 inches. Other areas that got those downpours had a whole lot more than that. But for us, right here in Walton, we were 1.81 inches above normal.

Wednesday started out at 52 degrees, which is almost where we our high is supposed to be. Our high is supposed to be about 59 degrees. But we’re gonna get back up to that maybe low 70s again and then for rest of the week, stick temperatures in there in the upper 40s and low 50s for nights and put us in the 60s and 70s for the day.

It’s going to feel warm out there. Look at how everything is greened up this week. The trees are now blooming. We’ve got grass growing like crazy. In fact all the birds are back except my hummingbirds and they said they’re supposed to come back this week, so I’m hanging up my feeders.

So go out and enjoy what we’ve got because it’s been a long time since we’ve had it. If you need to open the windows - go ahead. I even know a person that put in an air conditioner during the 81 degree day, because it was hot. So people that like that can have it. As far as I’m concerned, it could stay in the low 70s all year long and that would be okay.

Have a good one! I’ll talk to you next week.” ~ Frank Ward
