WALTON - The Walton Vets Club hosted a fundraising 50s Sock Hop and Car Cruise-In at the Vets’ Club Saturday night, July 19. Good old fashioned fun was had by all that attended on a beautiful summer evening.

A long line of motorcycles from Nam Knights were also there for their monthly “burger burn” before the rest of the festivities.

Fifties music played in the background and games and activities included corn hole and horseshoes, and hula hoops were available, as well as a raffle table and a barbecue style meal.

Joy Garrett served as DJ and dance instructor, keeping the crowd busy learning the “hand jive” and more.

The event proceeds will benefit the renovation project at the Vets’ Club. Most of the 78 year-old building will be overhauled.

A showing of a movie on the lawn made the perfect ending of the night.

The Walton Vets’ Club is made up of American Legion Post 32, American Legion Woman’s Auxiliary Unit 32, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 32, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 270, and Southern Tier Chapter of Nam Knights Motorcycle Club. These organizations each hold fundraising events such as dinners, breakfasts, support Wreaths Across America events, administer sales and display of veterans’ banners and the Veterans Memorial Walk at the base of the facility’s flagpole.

Fundraising proceeds support local veterans, but a portion is earmarked for the renovation fund.

To donate to the Vets’ Club for this project, go to the Walton Veterans Club Facebook page and look for the “Donate to Help Restore Walton Veterans Club, organized by John Hughes” GoFundMe page, or donate directly to the club by mailing a check or money order to 10 Park Street, Walton, NY 13856. Note “renovation” on the memo line.
