WALTON — A head-on collision along state Route 206, near East River Road, in Walton on May 13 left multiple people injured and one man in critical condition, according to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred when a westbound 2019 Audi A4, driven by 68-year-old Steven A. Wilson of Irvington, reportedly crossed the double yellow line and struck a 2021 Jeep Cherokee head-on. The Jeep, operated by 19-year-old Lauren Winans-Houck of Roscoe, veered off the roadway and down an embankment. The Audi remained in the roadway.
Emergency responders arrived to find one person trapped and three others who had managed to extricate themselves. Deputies assisted EMS teams in providing care and coordinating rescue efforts.
Winans-Houck sustained leg fractures and was transported to Wilson Hospital in Binghamton. A passenger in her vehicle was treated and released from Delaware Valley Hospital.
Wilson and a passenger from the Audi were airlifted from Delaware Valley Hospital to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. The passenger was later released after treatment for fractures; Wilson remains hospitalized in critical condition with multiple fractures and internal injuries.
The Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the crash. Numerous local and state agencies responded to the scene, including Walton, Hancock, Trout Creek, Downsville fire and EMS, Delaware County EMS, Walton Police, New York City Department of Environmental Protection Police, New York State Department of Conservation Spill Response Team, Delaware County Emergency Services, New York State Department of Transpiration, Ambulanz, and three LifeNet medevac helicopters.
