WALTON - Walton council members opened their Monday, Aug. 4 meeting with a solemn tribute to longtime Highway Superintendent Walt Geidel, who died July 31 at the age of 69. Supervisor Joe Cetta read a formal resolution honoring Geidel’s two decades of service to the town, calling him “a courageous firefighter and respected highway supervisor whose tireless commitment, leadership and compassion have left an indelible mark upon our town and our community.”

Geidel served as Walton’s highway superintendent for 20 years and was also an active member of the local fire department. The resolution praised his “unwavering bravery, protecting lives and property and exemplifying the highest ideals of service, courage and sacrifice.”

Cetta spoke of Geidel’s legacy as a public servant who led with “vision, integrity and steadfast devotion to the well-being and progress of all residents, fostering a spirit of unity and stewardship in our community.”

His death, Cetta said, is “deeply felt by family and friends, colleagues and the people whose lives he touched. His legacy will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.”

Following the reading of the proclamation, council members observed a moment of silence in Geidel’s memory.

“May his courage and commitment continue to inspire us,” Cetta said. “And may his memory be a blessing to all.”
