The TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) program is very actively trapping the feral cat colonies around the village and making a real difference. Adrienne McMillan, Monica Jacob and others in the Walton Kindness to Cats community are very dedicated to getting appointments for cats for treatment and spaying. They have gotten many cats adopted or transported to shelters. Adrienne has a donation container at her home at 6 Howell St. if you would like to donate blankets, food, traps, meds, or money to their mission.
Congratulations to Larry and Michelle Phoenix for being awarded 2025 Delaware County Fair Person of the Year award. For years, they have set up and maintained the EMS building at the fairgrounds and help coordinate all the volunteers that pass through there all week taking care of folks on the fairgrounds.
The award was announced at the Delaware Valley Agricultural Society’s annual meeting at the firehall on Saturday. The fire department cooked and served the meal, with beef donated by Larry Steiner (it was delicious), and the improvements at the grounds, and the attendance and financials from last year’s fair were shared. Jason Craig, president of the Fair Board, also relayed this year’s schedule which includes old favorites and new attractions such as a walking tree exhibit, another dog event and Chubby Checker! Look for more info on the fair pages on Facebook and their website.
The board also welcomed new member Jimmy Phraner of Empire Metal Works to the family, and held election of officers. President is Jason Craig, Vice President is Kevin O’Brien, Secretary is Ray Baker and Treasurer is Jimmy Dean. Thank you to these guys who are continuing in these positions. Thanks also to the rest of the board, Cecil Davis, Norm Kilpatrick, John Seward, Dennis DuMond, Kris Bowker, and Tara Robinson. The board is also helped a lot by their families and friends, and all the superintendent’s of the areas for all the animals, and events.

There is a long discussion online of dismissal at Townsend School and what the village is proposing to do to make it safer. The major change would be no parking or standing along North St. from Benton Ave to Union St. So parking would have to be farther up the street or on cross streets. There will be a public hearing at village hall on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 5 p.m. The public is welcome to come share ideas and discuss the changes that are proposed.
