UHS Delaware Valley Hospital is pleased to partner with Delaware County Emergency Services to offer a New York State Certified First Responder Course.
Instructed by Nationally Registered Paramedic and New York State EMS Instructor Richard Bell, MPA, first responders are trained to provide emergency care prior to ambulance arrival for transport and to assist EMTs with continued care and transport. Students learn to perform trauma assessments, medical assessments, airway management, CPR/AED use and how to provide basic care to patients. These lifesaving skills are essential in our rural area. If your children would like a fun day of crafts, community service, leadership activities, rocket launching, and games, the Walton Grange has the day. On Tuesday, July 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be a New York State Grange sponsored Kids’ Day Out event at Walton Grange #1454 & Walton Junior Grange #701, 135 Stockton Avenue. Any child age 5 - 17 is welcome to participate. The cost is $20 per child which includes activities and a kid-friendly lunch. For more information and a registration form call 607-510-4255. To raise funds for the Walton Cemetery raffle tickets for a full cord of firewood are offered. They have four cords to raffle, cut and split. Tickets are $10 each and are available from staff and board members: Sharon Harrington, Johanna Hoffmeister, Kathy Shelton, Art Munn, William Oles, Lisa Nichols, Catherine Reynolds, Niles Wilson, Donna Wood, Donna Jones, Janet Merrill, Stephen Condon, Gary Gregory, Tim Wood, Steve Dutcher, Jeff Wood, Wayne Boyd and Sharon Brennan. Tickets are also available at Palmer’s Garage and in the cemetery office during scheduled hours. The four winners will be drawn Oct. 6. Firewood must be picked up by winner.
Free summer meals for all children up to age 18 (21 for special needs) are being served at the Townsend School and the high school. Breakfast is served from 7:45-8:45, and lunch from 10:45-12:15, Monday through Thursday. Adults are welcome to eat as well but at a cost of $4 for breakfast and $5 for lunch. Bring exact change. This program runs until Wednesday, Aug. 20. Menus are available at the schools. These meals are not only a great way for families to save some money at home, but also a great time for kids to reconnect with friends over the summer. I think you will enjoy it if you take advantage of the program.
The Trout Creek Fire Volunteer Fire Company Inc. Ladies Auxiliary has raffle tickets available. The winning prizes include a fire pit, accessories and much more. The Walton Vet’s Club is conducting a fundraising drive for renovating the High Street clubhouse. The renovations needed include updated electric, ceiling replacement and insulation, new flooring, new HVAC system, wall insulation, paneling replacement, installation of a service window, new roof and siding, replacement of windows and doors, replace cooler insulation, foundation and chimney repair, and a rebuild of the wheelchair ramp. A new compressor and a jumbo freezer are needed, and the canopy needs to be replaced. Donations to the renovation project at any time will be gratefully received. Watch for upcoming information about fundraisers to help make the upgrades to keep the club open and safe for the vets, their families, and the public.
