WALTON - On Friday, April 14, The Reporter was invited to be a presenter at the 2023 Walton Middle School Career Day, where middle school students heard about careers available in Delaware County. Walton Central School graduates and professionals from area businesses talked to students about their careers. Students participated in a multimedia production session and learned how to identify a news story, gather data, conduct an interview and how to initiate a potential solution.
Students tackled the subject of school lunch.
The students, in grades 6 through 8, through peer interviews, identified what they saw as a problem, and in turn, offered solutions, Not all menu items were bad, students said. Some said they had favorite items.
Overall , students hope that the menu will be expanded to include more variety and more fresh fruits. Students enjoyed being on both sides of the camera, they said.
*This was a student-led, unscripted video report. Students learned how to frame a photo, time video for editing, film "B roll" and identify elements to tell a story.
