Upcoming Community Events Regarding the Proposed Constitution Pipeline

A coalition of regional and national partners are hosting a series of events over the next few months to inform, educate, and answer questions regarding the proposed Constitution Pipeline. On Tuesday, June 16, , 7-9 p.m., Stop the Pipeline and a coalition of partners will be holding a meeting at the Foothills Performing Arts Center Atrium, 24 Market Street, Oneonta. This informational session, led by Anne Marie Garti, a founding member of Stop the Pipeline and Of Counsel at the Pace Environmental Litigation Clinic representing the group, will give a primer on the relationship between gas pipelines and other industries, including massive AI data centers, power plants, heavy industries, and fracking, and explain the long-term negative impacts of these connected projects on our rural area if the pipeline were to be built. This is a free event.

On Sunday, July 5, 8-10 p.m., Guggenheim dance artist Maureen Fleming, renowned for her original fusion of visual art and movement theater, will host an educational and performative event and call-to-action, AXIS MUNDI, at Pumpkin Hollow Arts Center, in Davenport. Fleming’s critically acclaimed AXIS MUNDI explores, through metaphorical images, our search for transcendence whatever its form and features music by Philip Glass and light by Christopher Odo.

Following the performance, Anne Marie Garti, environmental attorney and activist, will be on-site to discuss why data centers and pipelines are the same thing right now and debunk the myth that local people will get the use of the gas from the Constitution Pipeline. Fleming will describe what a “High Consequence Area” or Blast Zone is, its effects on buildings and residences within the 800-foot perimeter of the Constitution Pipeline, and how this informs this site-specific rendition of AXIS MUNDI. Admission by donation; RSVP is required at qrco.de/axismundi.

On Saturday, August 8 the Waterfall Unity Alliance and partners will begin a two-week, 113-mile walk led by women to stop the Constitution Pipeline. Beginning outside of Damascus, New York, the Women’s Water Walk will continue through towns along the proposed pipeline route. Learn more or join the walk at womenswaterwalk.org.

These events are open to the public and all are welcome.
