UNADILLA – The village of Unadilla invites residents to brighten the holiday season by joining in the annual Holiday Lights and Decorating Contest. This year, residents, businesses, and organizations are encouraged to get creative and make Unadilla shine.
Participants can decorate the exterior of their homes, businesses, or organizations and compete in three festive categories:
• The Clark Griswold (for the most lights),
• The Reason for the Season (for displays focused on the holiday’s spirit), and
• Outstanding Themed Display.
Winners in each category will receive $100 in Chamber Bucks to spend at local member businesses, courtesy of the Unadilla Chamber of Commerce.
To enter, pick up and drop off a registration form at The Green Giraffe, located at 179 Main Street. Registration is free, but only registered addresses will be eligible for prizes. Decorate by Monday, Dec. 9; a panel of judges will select the winners, and awards will be announced and displayed during the Holiday Parade on Friday evening, Dec. 13.
The community is invited to take part in the second annual “Decorate a Tree” event on the Community House Lawn. Local organizations or businesses can reserve a fresh-cut tree by contacting Mayor Jake Cotton at 607-373-7370 or risingstarshows@gmail.com. Tree purchases support the local 4-H Club, or you may bring your own fresh-cut tree. The village will secure each tree and provide power for lights.
Decorate your tree by Wednesday, Dec. 11, in time for the official lighting of the village tree on Friday, Dec. 13.
