ONEONTA — The Dave Brandt Chapter of Trout Unlimited will host a presentation on fishing Connecticut’s Farmington River at its monthly meeting Monday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Sixth Ward Athletic Club, 22 W. Broadway.

A guest speaker will share advice from a fishing trip planned for Oct. 10 and 11, offering attendees a recent look at conditions and opportunities on the river, about a two-hour drive from Oneonta in northeastern Connecticut.

The Farmington is known for its cold-water fishery, sustained by water released from the bottom of two large reservoir systems. The conditions support brown, rainbow and brook trout throughout the year, including large fish, while abundant aquatic insect life provides opportunities for anglers using a range of techniques.

The presentation will cover public access points, productive fishing pools and seasonal strategies, as well as directions, fishing license information, nearby lodging, a local fly-fishing shop and contact information for a recommended guide. The speaker also plans to share photographs of trout caught on the river and locations suited to fishing.

Anglers may fish the Farmington with spinning tackle, bait or fly-fishing methods, including European-style nymphing. Wading is a common option at many public access areas.

The meeting is open to anglers interested in learning about the river, as well as those who have fished it and would like to share their experiences.

After the presentation, attendees can enjoy refreshments and take part in the chapter’s monthly raffle. Five or six prizes remaining from the Grand and Glorious Fall Fair will be offered, with tickets costing $1 each. A brief chapter business meeting will conclude the evening.
