ONEONTA — The Dave Brandt Chapter of Trout Unlimited will hold its monthly meeting Monday, June 9, at The Plains Senior Living Center, 163 Heritage Place. The meeting, which is open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. in the third-floor conference room.

This month’s featured speaker is Samantha Carey, an aquatic biologist with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Her talk, titled “Field Notes & Fish Tales: Life as an Aquatic Biologist and a Decade of Lake Whitefish Work,” will offer insights into her career and long-term monitoring efforts in Otsego Lake.

Carey, a 2016 graduate of SUNY Cobleskill with a degree in fisheries and aquaculture, later earned a master’s in lake management from SUNY Oneonta. Before joining the DEC, she spent six years at Cobleskill as a fisheries technician, instructing students in field-based coursework. She now manages coldwater and warmwater fisheries in Rensselaer and Columbia counties, as well as overseeing Otsego Lake, which she describes as “one of the crown jewels of the region.”

A brief business meeting will follow the presentation. Coffee and refreshments will be served, and attendees will have the chance to participate in a raffle featuring several prizes. Raffle tickets will be available for $1. Guests are welcome.
