Three-year-old found safe after search in woods

STAMFORD — A three-year-old child who went missing June 5 after wandering into a wooded area in Stamford was found safe following an hour-long search that drew a coordinated response from state and local emergency agencies.

The child, whose name was not released, was reported missing around 2:50 p.m. on June 5, according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The toddler had last been seen approximately an hour earlier entering a wooded area near their home.

Forest rangers joined with ENCON officers, the Roxbury and Stamford Fire Departments, New York State Police, and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office in the search effort. According to officials, five forest rangers were dispatched to assist.

At approximately 4:10 p.m., volunteers participating in the search located the child roughly a mile from where they had last been seen. Emergency medical personnel evaluated the child at the scene and determined they were in good health.
