Theresa R. [Halley] Orr, age 93, passed away Jan. 9, 2025, at her home in Walton, surrounded by family members.

Theresa was born April 16, 1931, in New York City, to James Halley and Anna [Fleming] Halley. Theresa married Donald Orr of Rockaway Beach Sept. 23, 1951, at Saint Rose of Lima Church in Rockaway Beach. Together they raised four children in Rockaway: Barbara, John, Patrick and James, before relocating to Walton in 1971, after Donald’s retirement from the New York City Police Department.

After relocating to Walton, Theresa and Donald were proprietors of “Nanny’s Antiques” in several locations in the village of Walton. After Donald’s passing in 1986, Theresa continued in the antiques business for a time, before becoming a home health assistant to the elderly. Theresa also took great joy in assisting first with the care of her granddaughter Melanie Wezkiewicz, and later her two great-grandsons, Brendan Henderson and Christian Vitek.

Above all, Theresa enjoyed raising her children, antique shopping, and later spending time with her extended family and friends, all of whom she loved dearly.

She was also a great lover of animals, particularly her cat Bunny and dog Skippy.

She was a lifelong member of the Catholic faith, and watched the Mass daily on television. As a mom, Theresa raised her children to see their home as their sanctuary, and celebrated their arrival back home from school each and every day, and later, after they moved away, each and every visit home.

Theresa is survived by her aforementioned children, granddaughter, and great-grandsons, as well as her nephew, James Monahan and his daughters, Christina and Kathleen; her nieces Kathleen [Dennis] O’Leary, Dolores Orr, Noreen Orr, Anne Marie [Thomas] Trew, and Terrence Orr; and the Harrison Family, Bobby [Lorraine] Harrison, her goddaughter Ruth [Francis] Schaeffer, Thomas Harrison, and Jeannie Harrison.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Orr; her mother Anna Halley, father James Halley; sister Anne Monahan, aunts Anna Halley and Nora O’Connell, and her nephews Eugene Orr, Thomas Orr, and William Harrison.

Calling hours for Theresa will be held Friday, Jan. 17, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton, to be followed by a prayer service there conducted by Rev. Edward Golding of St. John the Baptist Church of Walton. A reception is to follow at 4 p.m. at the New Hope Community Church, 45 Stockton Avenue, Walton.
