Dust off your dancing shoes—Catskills Old-Time Music is bringing back their annual community square dance on Saturday, July 11th from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Andes Fire Department Meeting House Pavilion, located on Tremperskill Road, just past the town courthouse.
Rooted in the region’s rich heritage of community barn dances, this event has drawn crowds of over 150 people in past years - and it’s easy to see why. A stellar lineup of old time musicians from across New York State will join local fiddlers to create an authentic Appalachian string band sound.
Never danced before? A little rusty on your do-si-do? No worries! A caller will guide you through every step, making it easy (and fun) for dancers of all ages. No experience or partner is needed - and if you’d rather sit back and enjoy the music, listeners are warmly welcome too.
A family dance and lesson starts at 5:30 p.m. and the main dance runs from 6-8 p.m. Admission is a sliding scale of $10–20 (cash only) and food will be available for purchase. This year’s proceeds will benefit the Andes Society for History and Culture.
