SUNY men dominate in high-scoring win

SUNY Delhi Broncos men’s basketball (5-2) defeated Clarks Summit (1-8) at home Wednesday, Nov. 30, 106-79. Delhi was dominant throughout the game, never giving up the lead and putting up 52 points in the paint.

The Broncos carried over the momentum from their last outing, jumping out to a 26-10 lead. They were able to work the ball down low with 34 of their points coming from in the paint. At the half, Delhi led 61-40 as Mavenson Therneus led the team with 12 points. Three different players were able to grab double-digit points as Jacob Beach and last week’s NAC Player of the Week Lester McCarthy joined Therneus.

In the second half, the Broncos bench stepped up scoring 31 of their 45 points. 14 different players found their way on the scoreboard as the Green and Gold were getting everyone involved. They would outrebound the Defender’s 44-24 as Delhi ran away with it.

The Broncos ended the game with a season-high 19 steals. Senior Jacob Beach led the way for Delhi, putting up a 17-point, 11-rebound, double-double. Beach was essential to the win, grabbing four offensive rebounds with a game-high +35 plus-minus. McCarthy ended his night with 13 points and an impressive six steals. While Therneus added 15 points and Isiah Barnes dished out six assists. 

“Great team effort tonight, we had some guys step up and give us tremendous production who have had limited opportunity prior to this game,” said head coach Zack Thomsen after the game.

The Broncos play at SUNY Cobleskill Dec. 3 at 3 p.m.
