Don’t miss the last day of Catskills Folk Connection’s exhibit “Folk Art in Fiber in Delaware County.” In addition to displays of over 60 fiber artworks by 14 artists, the closing event Sunday, Nov. 17, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature a demonstration of wool spinning offered by artists Phil O’Beirne and Ellen Stewart. The hum of spinning wheels will fill the gallery from 1 to 3 p.m. or until artists begin to pick up their works. Quilts, quilted jackets, sweaters, embroidery, weavings, and home-sewn wedding garments all glow on the walls at Delaware County Historical Association, 46549 State Route 10, Delhi. Skeins of yarn, tapestries, collections of classic textiles publications and weaving books will be on sale. Door prizes will be awarded every hour beginning at noon and refreshments will be served. Come celebrate the completion of a memorable exhibit that honors fiber creatives in our county.
The exhibit has also sponsored a three part tapestry workshop, led by Tabitha Gilmore-Barnes, in which six students are diving even more deeply into a fiber art, creating their own handwoven tapestries. At Sunday’s event, on the last day of the exhibit, the students will display their tapestries while O’Beirne and Stewart engage attendees in the process of turning fleece into yarn.
Remaining days to view the exhibit, “Folk Art in Fiber in Delaware County” are Wednesday, Nov. 13 through Saturday, Nov. 16, in addition to the closing event Sunday, Nov. 17.
