DELHI - Voting for the special election for the congressional representative seat for New York’s 19th district, previously held by Antonio Delgaldo, will take place Tuesday, Aug. 23 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at local polling sites. Candidates on the ballot include Marcus Molinaro, on the Conservative and Republican lines, and Pat Ryan on the Democratic and Working Families lines. The election is to fill the vacancy through January 2023.
Democratic candidates Jamie Cheney and Josh Riley will face off in a primary election the same day, as the party nominee for November’s general election. The winner will challenge Molinaro.
Also competing in a Republican primary on Aug. 23 are 51st Senate candidates incumbent Peter Oberacker and Terry Bernardo. The winner of that primary will challenge Democratic candidate Eric Ball in November’s general election.
July 29 is the last day to register to vote in the primary. Registrations must be postmarked July 29 and received no later than Aug. 3. Aug. 13 is the last day to register in person at the Delaware County Board of Elections. The last day to postmark, email or fax an application for an absentee ballot is Aug. 8 and the last day to apply in person or by agent for an absentee ballot is Aug. 22.
