Sidney Historical Association will present the evolution of Sidney railroads, including a timeline on the progress, population growth and property in the village of Sidney on Saturday, March 9 at 11 a.m. at the Sidney Memorial Public Library. Presenters will be Jim Gale and Steve Arrandale. These two men are train history aficionados of mainly Sidney and the surrounding area. John Taibi will be attending, so if you have one of his books, bring it and he will sign it.

During March, the art and photo exhibit in the Smart Community Room at the Sidney Memorial Public Library, 8 River Street, will be Marissa Orizzole and son, Gavin. 

Also at the library: Art/drawing workshops Thursday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join staff artist Joyce Meal for this free class. All levels welcome.  

Saturday, March 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., painting class. We will continue to explore the watercolor method. All levels  with registration fee.  

Friends of the Library will hold a “books a la carte” book sale Saturday, March 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the library lobby. Tech help - to schedule

Quilting Group “In Stitches” meets Mondays March 11 and 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Smart Community Room.

School age kid’s programs: Minecraft Mondays 3 to 4:30 p.m. (Ages 8 and up); in-person Lego Club Tuesdays 3:15 to 4:30 in the PCC; Crafts and Creations for K through sixth graders Thursdays 3 to 4 p.m. in the PCC. Pre-school kid’s - every Tuesday, Story Time at 10 a.m. in the children’s area. 

Rotary Club of Sidney will have a meeting Friday, March 8 at noon at the St. Luke’s Church, 139 West Main Street.

Tri County Senior Center is open Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All are welcome. First Wednesday – seated stretching exercises; Second Wednesday features a movie; Third Wednesday - exercise or Xbox bowling; Fourth Wednesday - the monthly meeting and social hour. Every Thursday - pitch and hand and foot (card games) and Fridays - Mahjong. The Center is located at 43 Pearl Street, on the right side of A.O. The Tri-County Seniors invite adults of all ages, but no children, to join them on a trip to the Silver Birches Resort in Hawley, Pennsylvania Wednesday, April 24, to see “The Buddy Holly Story.” Upon arrival, you’ll be treated to coffee and apple strudel, then entertainment with music for listening and dancing. There are shops to browse before the buffet luncheon followed by the show. The bus will pick up at the Price Chopper Plaza in Oneonta at 8 a.m. and behind McDonald’s in Sidney at 8:30. Arrival home - 6 p.m. in Sidney and 6:30 in Oneonta. The $135 price includes transportation, lunch and the show. For details or to reserve your spot, call Carol at 607-563-8065. Food Bank at Sidney United Methodist Church, 12 Liberty Street is open Mondays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:30.

The second Southern Tier Music Festival will be held Saturday, July 6 at the Sidney Municipal Airport. Nashville artist Nate Smith will be the headliner. The opener for him will be Nashville artist Lauren Watkins and five bands from the local area. Organizers are looking to bring 4000 people from a 200-mile radius to this event to increase tourism and promote economic development. There will be camping available at the General Clinton Park this year with shuttle buses bringing people to the concert. A two-day minimum on camping will allow campers to shop, eat, get gas and tour our beautiful communities. There will be heavy security, tents, sound, stages etc. This is 4 towns forward event therefore collaborating with Afton, Bainbridge, Sidney and Unadilla towns and villages.

Unadilla

The Unatego Elementary School Safety Patrol is fundraising to support the Civic Reward Trip to Washington, D.C. A pizza fundraiser will be held Wednesday, March 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the cafeteria held in conjunction with the Science Fair. Pizza orders are due March 11. Call the school at 607-369-6200 for details and information on prices. Families are invited to eat in, take dinner home, or buy a voucher for a pizza to use another night. Pizza is from Gavin’s Pizza in Sidney. The Safety Patrol will also host a bake sale if you would like to add dessert to your meal, plus raffle items from local businesses. The Science Fair is being held the same evening with an egg drop contest at 6:15 p.m.

The Teen Center, (Youth for Christ Central New York) 16 Watson Street, is open every Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. for youth 11 to 18. Enjoy arcade, air hockey, ping pong, video games and more. The Unadilla Public Library, 193 Main Street, will have a beginning genealogy class Saturday, March 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This class is perfect for beginning and intermediate genealogical researchers. You’ll learn about free genealogy websites and how to use vital records, census, records, cemetery records, newspapers, military records and much more.

Easter egg hunt Saturday, March 23 beginning at 11 a.m., sponsored by the Unadilla Public Library. The hunt will be on the library lawn for ages one year to 12 years old. Bring your own basket. There will be paper bags available if you don’t have a basket. Each child well get a free book and there will be prizes in the Easter eggs for each age group: 1 to 4 years, 5 to 8 years, and 9 to 12 years.

There will be a scavenger hunt Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Main Street, Unadilla. Each of the participating locations has a hidden lucky item. Find the item and win a prize from that shop. This is a kid-friendly, walkable event. 

Remember the Unadilla Elementary School is participating in the Otsego County Schools’ plastic recycling film challenge program and the Nextrex recycling challenge. Help the school collect 1,000 pounds of thin plastic film for recycling. Prizes will also be awarded to the school based on collection amount. Plastic must be clean, dry ands free of residue. Send to school with your children, grandchild or leave at school bus garage entrance, or drop off indicating child or class to receive credit. Program ends April 1.

Tai Chi for Arthritis class is coming to Unadilla Mondays and Thursdays beginning April 8 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 156 Main Street. Classes meet twice a week for eight weeks. Participants must commit to a minimum of 11 classes to join. Classes are free and open to individuals age 60+. Call 607-547-4232 to preregister. Sponsored by Otsego County Office for the Aging.
