Sidney Memorial Public Library, 8 River Street, after school programs are Mondays 3 to 4 p.m.: Minecraft Club - second to sixth grades. Tuesday, Jan. 16 at  10:45 Music for Munchkins, 2:30 to 3:15 Zoom Lego - find the link to join via Zoom on Facebook; 3:15 to 4:30 Lego Club now meeting downstairs - K to grade 12. Wednesday 11 a.m. - re-Discovery Time - Use Pre-K apps on library tablets or sensory bins for independent fun; 4 p.m. Teen Advisory Group for those in grades 7 to 12. Fridays from 3 to 4 p.m. Tween and Teen Club for those in grades 5 to 12. Teens cook series for students grade 5 to 12 Fridays 3 to 4:30 p.m. Learn to cook simple meals and make healthier choices, all about food prep/safety and more. The artist exhibit in the Smart Community Room for the month of January is a retrospective and all in the family by artist Lillie Anderson. Stop in any time the to view when Smart Community room is not in use. Art workshops Thursday, Jan. 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginner drawing by Joyce for this basic drawing class. Calligraphy II will be held Wednesday, Jan. 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Create a document using calligraphy. Mainly for those who have taken basic calligraphy. An energy program will be held Saturday, Jan. 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. Retired professor Dennis Higgins and engineer Keith Schue will outline their ideas on a better way to address the critical issues of climate change with out destroying communities. 

The food bank at the Sidney United Methodist Church, 12 Liberty Street is open Mondays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The Catholic Charities Emergency Food Pantry 21 Liberty Street, is open by appointment Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 8:30 to 6:30 p.m. 

Birthright of Sidney NY, 21 Liberty Street, Suite 10 serves Chenango, Delaware and Otsego counties. Open Monday 1 to 4 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Services are free, trained volunteers; information is confidential; 607-563-4321. Counseling, pregnancy tests, agency referrals, baby food and diapers. 

Unadilla

The Unadilla Elementary School is participating in the Otsego County Schools Plastic Recycling Film Recycling Challenge Program and the Nextrex Recycling Challenge and hopes to collect 1,000 pounds of think plastic film for recycling. The school will weigh and record the plastic collected by grade level for prizes given by the PRO. Prizes will also be awarded to the school based on how much the school collect - they hope to win a TEX Bench for the playground. Plastic must be clean, dry ands free of residue. Send to school with your children, grandchild or leave at school bus entrance drop off indicating child or class to receive credit. Items are grocery bags, bread bags, bubble wrap, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, ice bags, plastic shipping envelopes, zip lock and other re-closable food storage bags, cereal bags, case overwrap, salt bags, pallet wrap and stretch film, wood pellet bags and produce bags.  Program ends April 1, 2024.

The Unadilla Food Pantry, 172 Main Street, is open Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more info call 607-563-7713.

Are you getting rid of clothes - cleaning your closet after the holiday? Remember the Unadilla Methodist Church, Main Street has a clothing shed located in parking lot in  back of the Church for donations. The shed is sponsored by the Troop 1 BSA, open  24/7 for donation drop off. St. Parry Textile Inc. the company that provides the shed, partnered with businesses and various organizations  to distribute donated items both here in the U.S. and worldwide , where they’re ultimately re-worn by people who need them. Troop 1 receives funding for maintaining the drop off shed to support their programs and community service.   Accepted items - clothing, shoes, belts, purses, blankets, sheets, curtains, pillowcases, and stuffed animals.
