Sidney Memorial Public Library presents The Art of Bereavement – a healing grief workshop introducing various modalities to help move grief using art to explore grief and loss, Oct. 6, 13, 20, 27 and Nov. 3 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Community Cultural Center, 1 Bridge Street. Food Bank is open Mondays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:30 at Sidney United Methodist Church, 12 Liberty Street.

Catholic Charities Emergency Food Pantry, 21 Liberty Street, is open by appointment Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 8:30 to 6:30 p.m. Regular hours for Catholic Charities are Monday through Friday 8:30 to 4:30; lunch 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Sidney Memorial Public Library, 8 River Street, is accepting books for the upcoming Friends of the Library Grand Book Sale to be held Oct. 26 through 28. Proceeds help fund its children’s and adult programming.

This Saturday, Oct. 7 Brooks’ chicken and ribs barbecue at the Bishop lot across from the Kwik Fill, Main Street, Unadilla, starting at 10 a.m. until sold out.  Sides of mac salad and baked beans will be available, too. Sponsored by Beta Sigma Phi Preceptor Beta Kappa Chapter.

Sacred Heart Church annual harvest festival Friday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parish hall, 15 Liberty Street. A variety of homemade crafts, a bake sale, treasure chest. Silent auction, farmer’s market, games and haunted house by the Boy Scouts. Food galore including coffee and donuts each morning and breakfast Saturday morning. The Knights of Columbus will have a chicken barbecue; inside will be hot dogs, chili, Italian sausage, kielbasa, homemade soups and a lot more.

Tri-county Seniors will sponsor a presentation “Decluttering Your Home” Thursday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. in the Smart Community Room at the Sidney Memorial Public Library. Christine Worth, a professional organizer and member of the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals (NAPO), and owner of Decluttering Chaos, will present ideas for decluttering every area of your home with safety in mind. The program is free and open to the public, but preregistration is requested. The village of Sidney is in the early stages of developing a plan for the Clover Hill Lane property off Circle Drive and county Highway 4. The Sidney Town Board will hold a public hearing to discuss the updated Common Plan of Development-Overlay Thursday, Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m. The scheduled town board meeting will follow at 7 p.m.

Unadilla

Free breakfast in the lower level of the First United Methodist Church, 156 Main Street, Saturday, Oct. 7; takeout only from 9-11 a.m. Call 607-369-2052 for reservations. Breakfasts are held monthly on the first and third Saturdays.

The annual pancake breakfasts will be held Sundays at Unadilla Rod and Gun Club, 566 Butternut Road, serving from 8 to 11 a.m. each Sunday through Sunday, Nov. 12.

The Unadilla Rod and Gun Club is also having a trap field improvement raffle and tickets may be purchased at the Sunday breakfasts. The drawing will be held Dec. 19 at the club’s monthly meeting.

Village of Unadilla and Delaware Valley Humane Society Halloween Pets Costume Parade Friday, Oct. 13. Entry fee benefits DVHS. Meet at 6:30 p.m. Parade leaves  Bishop lot at 7 p.m. and parades to Unadilla Public Library. Cider and donuts and costume contest with prizes. 

Unadilla Public Library will have Solar Eclipse activities to prepare for the eclipse Saturday, Oct. 14 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. An annular eclipse - when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth while it is at its farthest point from Earth - will occur Saturday. They will be handing out solar-viewing glasses.

Unadilla Public Library will have Clara Mae Barnhart continue her creative writing workshop classes every third Wednesday - Oct. 18, Nov. 15 and Dec. 20 at 6 p.m.

Unatego Cue and Curtain announces the annual fall musical - “Willy Wonka!” The family friendly classic show has songs, dance and surprises.  The show will be presented Nov. 3 and 4 at 7 p.m. and Sunday afternoon Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. Note: due to the building project at Unatego High School, the show will be performed at the Sidney High School auditorium.

The First Presbyterian Church of Unadilla is celebrating its 200th anniversary Saturday, Oct. 28, beginning at 5 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
